Darren Esther clinches Honoree Young Designer of the Year Award at Ghana Fashion Week

Young Seychellois designer Darren Esther has clinched the Honoree Young Designer of the Year Award of the year 2021 which was announced during the Ghana Fashion Week show held on Sunday December 19 in Accra.

A still overjoyed and excited Darren told Seychelles NATION yesterday that he is very happy and proud that all the energy and love he puts in his creations have been followed, recognised and appreciated by experts in the field.

“I was really not expecting to be recognised among all those top designers from countries like Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Congo, Cameroun and others. So I have all the reason to be happy and proud,” said Darren.

He described the clothes he creates as artistic, powerful and always telling a story.

He said the prize is not only for him but also for Seychelles and all young Seychellois designers.

“We should always be confident in what we do and never underestimate ourselves,” said Darren.

Darren, who comes from Mont Plaisir, Praslin has been taking part in several fashion shows organised by Telly’s Modelling Agency and his brand name is DA Extra Seychelles.

He noted that he took part in the Ghana Fashion Week in 2019 but since then his creations have been closely followed by the experts there because everything he creates he posts on his social media pages.

Darren’s most recent clothes line is the creation that is dressing local artists in the current Guiness campaign ‘Black Shines Brightest’.

As he did not attend the fashion event in Ghana, Darren followed the show virtually and is expected to receive his award by courier delivery.
