The winners of a painting competition launched by the Danny Faure Foundation on July 1 this year have been announced.
The competition under the theme ‘The Ocean is the beating blue heart of our planet. Protect it and preserve our future’ was open to primary school children across the country between the ages of 6 to 8 years (Group A) and 9 to 12 years (Group B).
The competition was a sensitisation tool aimed at exploring how our children interpret the importance of the ocean.
Through their artwork, the Foundation hoped to discover how they see the ocean and how crucial they believe it is for their livelihood and that of the planet.
Participants were allowed to submit a maximum of two artworks.
A total of 486 paintings were received from the young artists, with 195 submissions for Group A, 260 submissions for Group B and 31 extra paintings from participants who submitted a second artwork.
Each artwork is a masterpiece full of vivid colours and creativity.
The 7-member jury, independent of the Foundation, met on September 11, 2021 with the difficult task to choose the 12 winners of the competition.
The 12 winners are as follows:

As all 12 winning paintings will feature on the Danny Faure Foundation’s 2022 Calendar, there is no first or second place. However, Kiesha Marie made a most outstanding achievement of having both her paintings among the 12 winners.
All participants will receive a certificate of participation and the winners of the competition will receive their prizes at a ceremony to be held this week.
The painting competition is the first activity of the Danny Faure Foundation since it was launched on June 8, 2021.
We present all 12 winning artworks.
