Cricket: Sahajanand Builders Junior Tournament – Round Five

The Final Round of the Seychelles Junior Cricket tournamentsaw Seychelles Sixers, Mahe Predators, Cascade XI and Perseverance Lions make the playoffson Saturday 19th November playedat the “Home Of Cricket”  Ile Perseverance ground the tournament is sponsored by Sahajanand Builders and General Traffic Limited.

Match 1 saw the first upset of the day with the last place ER Elite Hitters pushing last week table topper Mahe Predators of the summit of the table. Batting first the Predators continued to lose wickets at a regular interval with the Hitters bowlers doing a fine job of restricting the Predators to a under par 87 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted ten overs.

Going into bat the Hitters started cautiously ensuring that they control the chase. Captains ShanmukhaChavadam (Four 6s) and Kiana Kate along with Amrit Patel combined to reach the score of 88 runs in nine overs. Giving the Hitters the first win of the tournament.

Match 2 was played between the Sizzling Seychelles Sixers and the Mighty Perseverance Lions but were comfortable knowing that they had qualified for the playoffs. As usual the Sixers choose to bat first and put up a mammoth score of 128 runs in ten overs. With DeepeshHirani getting 28 runs (Three 6s & Two 4s), Hari Patel (Three 6s & one 4) and SelveshSenthilkumar (two 6s &Three 4s) scored 26 runs apiece.

The Lions confidentially strode in to bat with their two top batters KrishBanderi scored 26 runs (One 6 & Four 4s) and their Captain Amazing Lithira getting 30 runs (Two 6s & Three 4s) but after them none of the Lions batters make an impact finishing their ten over for 113 runs.

Match 3 witnessed a keen contest for the last qualifying spot for the playoff between the Cascade XI and the Royal Strikers. Winning the toss Cascade elected to bat first and came out blasting the bowlers to all parts off the ground with Captain Jenilhitting three 6s and one 4 alongside the ever improving AamirMuna who smashed three 6s and three 4s they were aided by young Liam Venter who carted two 6s for a score 117 runs in ten overs.

The Royals chase got off to the worst possible start losing their captain JishinJins early for a duck. The rest of the Royals batters could not cope with the limped to the low score of 70 runs in the ten overs. Thus handing over the last playoff spot to the Cascase XI.

The final league games having concluded with four teams standing strong. The Sixers have topped the table, closely followed by the Predators, Cascade XI and the Perseverance Lions. The Royals and Hitters have been eliminated and will have to play for the Wooden Spoon.

The Playoffs will be played on Saturday 26th November 2022 starting at 9:00AM.
