Confucius Institute Alumni celebrates Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival

This year, September 10 was the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, which also coincided with the 38th Teacher’s Day in China.

The double festival further added to the joyous atmosphere of the festival. On this day, the Confucius Institute at the University of Seychelles (UniSey) held the ‘Welcome Alumni, Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival’ activity at the Chilli Bar restaurant.

The Alumni Association of the Confucius Institute at the UniSey was established on September 27, 2019, which coincided with the ‘Confucius Institute Day’ that year.

Since its establishment, the Alumni Association of the Confucius Institute at the UniSey has grown continuously, and the ties between the members of the Alumni Association have become increasingly close.

On the occasion of the Spring Festival in 2020, the Confucius Institute held the activity ‘Alumni Go Home to Celebrate the Spring Festival’. Since then, it has also held alumni climbing activities, which enhanced the communication among alumni and deepened their friendship.

Many outstanding Chinese learners have emerged among the alumni of the Confucius Institute at the UniSey. They play an important role in their respective fields, connecting the Confucius Institute of Seychelles with Seychelles and the friendship between China and Seychelles.

This year, the president of the Seychelles Alumni Association has changed. The new chairman of the Confucius Institute Alumni Association, Francis Woodcock, and the vice-chairman, Shamad Japha, are outstanding representatives of these alumni. Mr Woodcock, who is one of the earliest Chinese students of the Confucius Institute, this year won the undergraduate degree of Dalian University of Technology, majoring in Chinese language, with the honour of outstanding graduates.

Mr Japha is an outstanding student majoring in French at the University of Seychelles and an outstanding representative of young people in Seychelles. This year, he won the championship of the ‘Chinese Bridge’ and Chinese Song Competition in the Seychelles Division. They will work for the friendship and connection between the new Confucius Institute alumni associations with their stories of Chinese learning and their feelings for the Confucius Institute. They shared their experiences and stories of learning Chinese to the guests.

Vice-Chancellor of the UniSey, Joelle Perreau, and Wang Dongxia, director of the Confucius Institute, presented the certificate of the Confucius Institute Alumni Association to the participating Confucius Institute alumni.

At the activity, the alumni sang classic Chinese songs and played the games together. They also tried Seychelles heritage moutya dance together with the Chinese teachers.

The activities of the alumni association bring the members of the alumni association closer, make the alumni association more cohesive, and let more of Seychelles see the joy of learning Chinese.
