The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Seychelles, Guo Wei, paid a farewell courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Roger Mancienne, yesterday morning.
Speaker Mancienne was accompanied by the deputy Speaker, Hon. Gervais Henrie, and the leader of government business, Hon. Bernard Georges.
Ambassador Guo was accompanied by the Counsellor of the Chinese embassy Mu Jianfeng; the director of the Political Section of the Chinese embassy, Li Na; and the attaché of the Chinese embassy, Jessica Qi.
Both the ambassador and the Speaker discussed the stability and strength of the bilateral relations between China and Seychelles, and the active engagement of the ambassador and her team during her four-year tenure.
Ambassador Guo praised the mutual interests and respect shared by China and Seychelles and wished her successor well, as well as taking a moment to commend projects such as the Blue Economy and their impact on Seychelles’ economic development.
The Speaker also gave recognition to the beauty and advancements of China and stated that while China’s role in Africa continues to grow and become crucial, he hopes the Seychelles-China relations remain strong and amicable.
Ambassador Guo responded by extending an invitation for Seychelles delegates to once again visit China and engage the friendly cooperative spirit enjoyed by both countries.
Hon. Henrie gave his sincere thanks for the work that Ambassador Guo has done and wished her well in her future endeavours.
Hon. Georges noted that Ambassador Guo’s departure from Seychelles was of great regret as her presence in her role had been thoroughly engaging, and he hoped to meet the ambassador again in the future.
The ambassador was presented with a token of appreciation and thanks by the Speaker on behalf of the National Assembly before the meeting concluded.
The ambassador also met separately with the leader of the opposition, Hon. Sebastien Pillay, as part of her farewell meetings.
