Seychelles will be represented at this year’s African Amateur Individual Chess Championship scheduled to take place in the coastal city of Mombasa, Kenya between November 26 and December 4 by three players.
Robin Bonne and Harish Pillay will be accompanied chairman of the Seychelles Chess Federation (SCF) Benjamin Hoareau who will also compete at the tournament, which will be run by the Chess Kenya Federation (CKF), under the auspices of the African Chess Confederation (ACC) at the Mombasa Continental Resort.
The last African Amateur Individual Chess Championship was held in 2018 and hosted by Namibia Chess Federation at the Klein Windhoek Guest House, bringing together a total of 80 players from 11 different African chess federations.
This year’s competition already boasts of an increased number of federations present which currently stands at 15 compared to the previous one which was 11.
In total over 120 players are expected to grace the event as they battle it out for the different awards at stake.
The championships will be played in accordance with the International Chess Federation (Fide) regulations as a nine-round Swiss system tournament.
Other than cash prizes, the winners in the each category will also qualify by personal right to participate in the 2023 World Amateur Chess Championships.
