Chaka Brothers donates goods to nine homes for the elderly

“Valentine’s Day is about much more than getting flowers and celebrating romantic love. It’s about the real-deal, universal stuff of life that makes up who we really are…” shared Abdul-Gafoor Yakub, chief executive and chairman of Chaka Brothers.

Chaka Brothers donated R32,308.00 worth of cleaning materials to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family (MYSF) and the nine elderly homes.

For the homes for the elderly, the donation is composed of nine cartons of toilet cleaner, nine cartons of wipes, 18 dozens of furniture polish, 18 gallons of all-purpose cleaner, nine cartons of dishwashing liquid and nine cartons of sunflower oil.

The MYSF also received three cartons of toilet cleaner, wipes, six dozens of furniture polish and two gallons of all-purpose cleaner.

Mr Yakub shared that the Chaka Brothers have chosen to reach out to those in need and have decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day with small acts of kindness.

“We are happy to help support both the parent ministry and all the nine homes for the elderly with the cleaning and sanitary materials because we regard the elderly as the more vulnerable section of our society. It is important for all of us, especially the vulnerable elderly people to live in a clean, hygienic environment. Although the corporate social responsibility has been abolished, Chaka Brothers are happy as a family business to make it a part of our civic duties. So we will be making donations whenever we can afford to so…” promised Mr Yakub.

He also suggested that businesses remain engaged with the local community through such initiatives as they must focus on driving positive change within our local communities.

The donations were received by the director for human resources and administration within the MYSF, Gyra Nibourette, and the director general for elderly and disabled division Rosa Morin.

The event was attended by the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Marie-Celine Zialor, and also present was Mili Sicobo, a resident from La Retraite home for the elderly who recited a poem and sang a ‘romance’.
