Cable & Wireless Seychelles launches eSIM capability for the first time

Cable and Wireless Seychelles (CWS) has launched the eSIM, becoming the first telecommunication company in Seychelles to introduce this new product.

The eSIM is simply a substitute for a traditional physical SIM card, however, it gives customers the flexibility of having multiple SIM profiles on their devices, joining the digital revolution.

The eSIM was presented to local media by the company’s product services executive, Malika Romain, during a press conference on Monday morning at CWS headquarters, Sunshine House in Providence, in the presence of the company’s chief executive, Georges D’Offay and other officials.

Mr D’Offay, said “the availability of CWS’ eSIM offers new experiences and solidifies the enhancement of global connectivity. We hope that this will be exciting for customers as in the coming future, more devices will be enabled with the eSIM. Therefore, we hope that customers can embrace this technology and all the perks that come with it”.

When explaining its functionality, Ms Romain said eSIMS have several benefits, one being it is easier to install, as the customers will not have to physically insert the card, but rather do it digitally with the use of a QR code.

Another benefit is it allows for dual-SIM functionality.

“Customers can benefit from having two active SIMs; an eSIM and a physical SIM, or 2 eSIMs, depending on the device, which is ideal for those with more than one phone number. This also allows dual-SIM functionality on a device that does not have two SIM card slots,” she said.

The telecommunication company said the momentum brought forward by the eSIM is not solely essential for the customer journey, but it is also a testament to the sustainable commitment it made.

Saying goodbye to the physical SIM cards ensures that the company will considerably reduce its plastic waste.

She added that this new digital revolution will not only benefit locals but also visitors to Seychelles.

“Visiting Seychelles will also be more seamless, as tourists will not have to worry about going back and forth between their original SIM. They will now have the luxury of keeping their overseas profile while activating a local one from here,” she added.

Once at a Customer Service Centre, customers that request an eSIM will receive a QR code instead of a physical SIM card.

To download their eSIM, the customer must scan their QR code with their device’s camera. They will then be prompted on-screen to download and install their new eSIM.

The list of eSIM-compatible devices is inclusive of several high-end Apple, Samsung, Google Pixel, Huawei, and Oppo devices.

The company said it will confirm on device compatibility before any sale is performed. For those interested to review compatibility, simply dial *#06# for more information.
