President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Wednesday 15th September, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.
Cabinet approved for the drafting of a holistic Water Bill that will legislate the management of the water resources across the whole territory. Cabinet also approved that a multi-sector regulator will have the responsibility for regulating the water resources management in the country.
Cabinet was briefed on the procedures and guidelines set for implementation of the Scheme for the Return of Undeveloped Land Acquired or Purchased by the Republic from 1977 – 1993. The Scheme will be launched on 1st October 2021 and persons wishing to lodge claims for return of land will have three months to lodge their claim. Their claim will be considered based on set criteria.
Cabinet was also presented with the Education Statistics Booklet which is an annual publication which provides accurate and reliable statistics on Education from the Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary institutions in the country. The statistics provide contribute towards the monitoring and evaluation of education policies and service-delivery programmes on a timely basis.
As part of the Clean up the World Campaign 2021, Cabinet was briefed on the initiative to increase energy efficiency practices in Offices in the Public Sector.
Cabinet was also briefed on Government’s commitment to introduce waste segregation and sorting practices through the use of different coloured bins by waste type. The initiative will start in the Government offices. This initiative is also part of the Clean up the World Campaign 2021.
