Men’s division one league champions Beau Vallon Heat proved that the victories in the play-off finals over rivals PLS Hawks were not a flash as they registered yet another victory over the Plaisance-based side, this time in the Land Marine Cup competition.
On Wednesday at the Victoria Gymnasium, Beau Vallon Heat beat PLS Hawks 92-77 to top group A, while in the group’s other match, Baya beat Mont Fleuri Dawgz 64-50.
Heat now top the group with two wins in as many matches, following their 92-65 win over the Dawgz in their first match, while the Hawks are second following a win and a loss in two matches played.
Hawks’ statistics are similar to Baya who also have a win and a loss out of two matches, but based on the head-to-head rules, Hawks are ahead after beating Baya 87-77.
Against Hawks, Beau Vallon Heat were the most dominant side right from tip-off, winning the first quarter 22-18, before dominating Hawks in the second quarter, winning it 27-14 to lead 49-32 at half-time.
Despite a slight comeback in the third quarter of the match, where PLS Hawks managed to score some points, Heat maintained their lead, winning 27-22, extending their lead to 76-54 at the end of the period, with 12 points from Aurelien Maimée.
Boasting a comfortable lead in the fourth and last quarter, Beau Vallon Heat took their foot off the pedal, allowing Hawks to score some points, earning them the fourth quarter 23-16.
The margin obtained from the first three quarters was enough to keep Heat in the lead to win the match 92-77.
Kris Andre was Heat’s top scorer with 29 points, while Jean-Philip Esparon led the scoring for the Hawks with 17 points.
In the group’s other match, both Baya and the Dawgz started on a slow pace, ending the first quarter on a 15-15 tie, a situation which did not change much in the second quarter where only a single point separated them, with Baya winning 13-12, ending the first half of the match 28-27 in favour the Bel Air side.
It was in the third quarter that Baya shifted to a stronger gear, scoring 16 points, while Dawgz dropped in seven, giving Baya a 44-34 lead at the end of the period.
In the fourth and final quarter of the match, Baya scored an additional 20 points, compared to 16 for the Dawgz, earning the former a 64-50 victory.
