The finals of the 75th India Independence Tournament by the Indian High Commission in Seychelles and the Rajaganapathy Store were held last weekend at the La Promenade Gymnasium where Allisen Camille and Steve Malcouzane went home with two titles each.
In the women’s singles, Camille, who defeated Lianna Bedier in the semi-final, was up against Xiang Luo who defeated Aurelie Jean-Louis in the other semi-final.
In the final, Camille took only 18 minutes to beat Luo in straight sets 2-0 (21-9, 21-9).
Camille’s second title was in the mixed-doubles where she paired up with Malcouzane, defeating Jakim Renaud and Luo 2-0.
The set scores were 21-9 and 21-14.
Malcouzane’s other win was in the men’s doubles where he partnered with Ruddy Naidoo, against Renaud and Pethum Malliyawadu.
The Malcouzane and Naidoo duo won the first 21-16, before enduring through the second set, winning 23-21 and the match 2-0.
Camille was once again in action in the women’s doubles final where she partnered with Luo against Juliette Waye-Hive and Shirley Etienne.
After losing the first set 15-21, Camille and Luo fought back to win the second set 21-16, leveling the match at one set apiece.
Waye-Hive and Etienne came out as the better team in the third set, winning it 21-17 and the match 2-1 to be crowned as women’s doubles champions.
In the men’s singles, Aaron Malcouzane was the grand winner, stretching Renaud into three sets after being tied at one set apiece.
Malcouzane won the first set 21-19, before Renaud came back in the second set, winning it 21-17, forcing a third and decider set.
In better physical shape, Malcouzane came out stronger in the third to win 22-20, and the match 2-1.
