On the occasion of World Day of Social Justice celebrated yesterday, February 20, the Association for Rights Information & Democracy (Arid) has sent the following message:

“The world is commemorating the World Day of Social Justice this year under the theme ‘Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunities for Social Justice’.

“The raison d’être of World Day of Social Justice celebration is to raise awareness against social inequality and to eradicate poverty, physical discrimination, gender discrimination, racial discrimination and religious discrimination so as to create a society that is socially integrated.

“As the world celebrates Social Justice, Seychelles, as a small island, should not only talk social justice but LIVE social justice. Everyone deserves equal financial, political, and social rights and equal opportunities.

“For peace to reign in a country, all barriers should be overcome with social justice reigning in the country. Opportunities must be shared to all and not just a few opportunists.

Arid further reminds the government that good service delivery and public accountability, build a nation’s trust in government and help societies prosper.

“Arid wishes everyone a very Happy World Day for Social Justice.”
