Accra: It was an intense Division One playoff match between Real Tamale United (RTU) and Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday. But it was Eleven Wonders who came out on top after Farouk Ameyaw scored a late penalty to secure qualification for his side as they edged RTU 2-1 in a fiercely contested encounter.
According to Ghana News Agency, the game started on an intense note, with Eleven Wonders dominating possession in the early minutes. Frank Awere opened the scoring for Eleven Wonders with a left-foot finish that stunned RTU goalkeeper Abdul Rauf Mahammued. Despite the open nature of the game and numerous tackles, referee Selorm Yao Bless maintained discipline on the field.
RTU’s Jonas Wisdom Manyina posed a significant threat to the Eleven Wonders defence and nearly equalized late in the first half, but his effort went wide. Eleven Wonders goalkeeper Kenneth Owusu ensured his side held onto their first-half lead with a composed performance.
RTU began the second half stronger, pr
essing for an equalizer. Referee Yao Bless awarded them a penalty in the 64th minute after Wisdom Manyina was fouled, and Blabala Bamon converted from the spot to level the score. As the match headed into its final quarter, both teams pressed for a winner.
Ameyaw’s decisive penalty in the 89th minute sealed the victory for Eleven Wonders, much to the disappointment of RTU players and fans. With this win, Eleven Wonders will join Hohoe United and Swedru All Blacks in the next season’s premier league.
