Activities for World Hearing Day launched

The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family organised a ear screening last week at the Pointe Larue elderly home.

The activity was done in commemoration of World Hearing Day which is celebrated on March 3. The theme for this year is ‘To hear for life, listen with care’.

Audiologist George Savy tested the hearing capabilities of a number of residents of the home.

“The importance of World Hearing Day is to sensitise the public about how to protect our ears against loud noises. It is important to continue this campaign as a lot of people are suffering from noises from leisure activities, work etc. It is necessary to ensure that we understand and take proper measures to protect our ears. If we lose our hearing, we will lose out on life’s simple pleasures such as enjoying a conversation with a loved one or simply listening to the sounds of mother nature,” Mr Savy said.

Other activities for World Hearing Day include testing at the Rehab Centre at North East Point and testing for diabetic patients on Praslin.
