A second group of athletes and officials left Seychelles yesterday morning for Mauritius to participate in the 12th Indian Ocean Sports and Youth Commission (CJSOI) Games from December 4-11.
It was the weightlifters, boxers and tennis players who made the trip yesterday accompanied by two young entrepreneurs, namely Jean-Michel Vidot and Kelly Mein, cameramen journalists from the two television stations – Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) and Télésesel ‒ and representatives of the National Youth Council.
For the first time, an advisor from the Quality of Life division within the family department ‒ Beryl McGavin-Hoareau ‒ accompanies the athletes.
A total of 200 Seychellois, the second largest delegation after the host country, Mauritius, will take part in these Games.
A first part of the delegation, which included sailing athletes, left the country on November 28. The large delegation must fly to the sister island tomorrow, Saturday 3 December.
The Seychellois representatives will return on December 14 and 15.
The official opening of the games will take place this Sunday, December 4.
The Seychelles flag bearers for these Games will be Gaël Barreau and Khema Elizabeth, and the head of delegation will be Mr. Alain Alcindor.
There are eleven competitive disciplines on the program, all open to girls and boys. Namely: athletics and disabled athletics, beach handball, boxing, futsal, weightlifting, swimming, petanque, tennis, table tennis, triathlon and sailing. Seychellois will participate in all disciplines on the program – except triathlon.
It should be noted that during the last edition, the Seychelles had won 11 medals, including three gold.
